The Playing for Progress Platform Tennis Tournament, supporting the Arthritis Foundation, will take center stage in Wilton on Saturday, Oct. 4, bringing together players, volunteers and supporters at the Wilton Family YMCA’s Paddle Tennis Complex. The goal is to raise $10,000 to advance research and resources for the 690,000 Connecticut residents affected by arthritis.
Players of all levels are invited to join a friendly but competitive event structured to ensure everyone enjoys multiple matches and opportunities for connection. Morning play begins at 8:30 a.m. at the YMCA courts at 404 Danbury Rd., with additional matches hosted across Wilton. Registration fees and sponsorships benefit the Arthritis Foundation, supporting vital research, exercise, education and advocacy programs for people living with arthritis.
Preliminary matches at the YMCA and local clubs run 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m., followed by lunch and live entertainment at the YMCA at noon; and the semifinals and finals rounds and awards take place from 1-4 p.m.
Wilton resident Katie McSporran said the idea for a paddle tennis tournament and raising money for the Arthritis Foundation is a perfect fit. “Arthritis affects over 60 million people in the United States, and those afflicted want to stay as healthy, mobile and active for as long as possible,” McSporran said.
Giving Back and Raising Awareness
Playing for Progress highlights movement, resilience and the spirit of community, all values embraced by the Arthritis Foundation and Wilton’s active sports scene. Attendees can learn how the Foundation’s local and national initiatives make a difference for adults, children and families living with this complex disease.
For information on how to register to play, volunteer during the tournament or donate directly to the Arthritis Foundation, visit the Playing for Progress event page.
“Every volunteer and participant makes a meaningful impact — supporting arthritis research and strengthening Wilton’s community ties,” McSporran said.
