Wilton Youth Council is offering a “Lunch and Learn” webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 21 entitled “School and Homework Refusal — Why it Happens and How to Help.” This free, interactive conversation will be led by parent coach Vanessa Elias.
This program offers an opportunity to gain insight into why school/homework avoidance happens, what it looks like and how to can help support a child through it. During this session, Elias will cover topics including:
- Identification: Understanding when the issue goes beyond ordinary resistance
- The Parent’s Role: How to help and empower a child
- Navigating School Communication: How to collaborate effectively with a child’s school
- Seeking Additional Support: When and how to find the most effective resources
“If you are exhausted from trying to get your child to do homework or having a hard time getting them to school, you are not alone. Come get some new ideas,” Elias said.
Elias is a human connection and mental health activist, certified parent coach, and community advisor. She helps people build relationships, connection and community within and outside the home. She serves as a parent support group facilitator for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and a speaker for the Aspen Institute’s Weave Social Fabric Project.
