Win Over New Canaan Sends 5th Grade Girls to Finals
Wilton 5th grade girls advanced to the league championship after battling a tough New Canaan team to a 16-10 win in a defensive affair Sunday at Westhill High School. After taking the opening tip and scoring off an Ellie Smith layup, the teams literally exchanged baskets deep into the fourth quarter until Lilliana Finn’s shots started to fall and Arwen Garcia’s offensive output was matched by her best defensive game of the year. The defensive team effort was galvanized by outstanding rebounding and tie ups by Josie Silva, Maia Andjelkovic, Ella Loughran and Rory Kepner. Good ball distribution and assists were handled by point guards Rose Bilella and Carolina Bonita. Coco Layne contributed both in the offensive column as well as solid defense. In addition to her defensive efforts, Loughran also showed up in the scoring column. The girls head to Danbury Sunday to try and win a Championship!
