Wilton 2007 Boys Blue Still Undefeated after 3-1 Win Over FUSA 2007 Black

The Wilton 2007 Boys Blue team maintain an undefeated record after defeating FUSA 2007 Black on Sunday morning in Fairfield. The Wilton boys conceded an early goal but fired back with three unanswered goals to win the game, their fourth of the season.

The midfield, anchored by Jack Crossen and Finn Burke in the center and wings Amit Solomon and Andrew Partenza, kept pressure on FUSA and sent threatening passes forwards for shots on goal. One of these passes found Matthew DeMasi, who sent a blistering cross in to Alessandro Ochoa for the tying goal. Rewarded for his unselfish play, DeMasi found the back of net himself to give Wilton the lead for good.

FUSA didn’t have many threatening moments after their first goal due to relentless defense from Stefano Cross, Jack Barker, Jack Vermeulen and Maddox Backman and strong goaltending from Luke Perna and Barker.

In the final minutes of the game, Ochoa scored on a breakaway goal to seal the win for Wilton, 3-1.

Wilton Girls U12 White Convincingly Defeat Easton Redding United, 6-1

The Wilton 2006 Girls U12 White team triumphed over Easton Redding United with an impressive score of 6-1. Goals were notched by Julia Steenbock (3), Maddy Gillespie (2), and Caitlyn O’Grady (1). The offense was rounded out with the aggressive play of Maddie Phelan, Megan Dodman, Ella Breitenbach, Sienna Magazino and Melissa Ongley, who continually put pressure on the opposing team. The strong defensive performance of Caroline Luce, Charlotte Stapkowski, Grace Biondo, Brooke Ulehla and Sarah Fernandes provided numerous stops, rarely letting ERU near the goal. Strong goal tending by Biondo and Phelan sealed the win.

Wilton’s First-Ever 2nd Grade Travel Soccer Team Beats Trumbull, 2-1

On a beautiful fall Sunday, Oct. 1, the Wilton 2010 Boys U9 team beat Trumbull, 2-1. Wilton’s Kellen Zadourian and Stephen Stewart made impressive back-to-back goals within minutes of one another. The team kept up the pressure with additional attempts on goal by Zadourian, Stewart, Maxwell Weigold and Spencer Schulman in the first half, and Nolan Ripp, Zadourian, Adam Mims and Stewart in the second half. Strong offense by Luke Kane and Patrick Flynn kept up the pressure. Strong defense by goalie Mims and players Andrew Eckert and Nathan Phippen prevented Trumbull’s multiple attempts at goal, until the end with a goal by Trumbull from a penalty kick.

The victory was the first for the Wilton 2010 Boys team, which is the first 2nd-grade travel team in Wilton.

Wilton 2007 Boys U-11 Gold Tie New Canaan White, 3-3

Wilton 2007 Boys U-11 Gold traveled to New Canaan to take on New Canaan FC Boys White on a gorgeous fall Sunday. It was a fantastic match overall, ending in a tie score of 3-3.

New Canaan came out strong, scoring the first goal. However, Wilton would not let them lead for long. Dominick Cilento had a beautiful throw-in assist to Mason Behar, who caught the goalie out of position to put Wilton on the scoreboard, 1-1. Brian Sallese, Tyler Jackson and Reed O’Neill kept the offense organized, while Noah Levy and Ronan O’Halloran displayed brilliant defensive teamwork. Warren Hamilton scored a stunning, long-range second goal for Wilton, bringing the score to 2-1. Trevor Galligan, goalie, had numerous good saves and punts. At halftime, the score was 2-2.

In the second half, Samar Rokkam displayed skill in clearing the ball. Bill Stofega unrelentingly drove the ball up the field and showed great dribbling technique, while Levy kept the pressure on the defensive side with his tackling and ability to win the ball. There was an exciting string of skilled passing from Stofega to Jackson to Sallese, who put the ball in the back of the net for Wilton’s third and final goal. With the score at 3-2, the pressure was clearly on for Wilton to hold the lead, and the tension could be felt both on and off the field. In the last minutes of the game, New Canaan was able to find a hole in the defense to bring the score to 3-3.

The Warriors showed teamwork, determination and steadfast commitment in a tough match with rival New Canaan, and the tie allows them to continue to hold their 3rd place overall standing in the league.

Wilton U9 Girls Blue Worked Hard, But Accepts Defeat from Trumbull, 1-5

On Sunday, Oct. 2, Trumbull hosted Wilton U9 Girls Blue in a match more nail-biting than the score reflected. Although Trumbull scored three times in the first half, Wilton’s aggressive offense played their part in the stirring action. Ally Phelan nearly scored on a penalty kick. Victoria Jankowski, Audrey Lepore and Andie Langeland threatened to score a number of times.

On defense, Sadie Sherman, Clara Fielden and Sophia Solomon put up a valiant effort, and goalie Maddie Rayment made a number of thrilling stops. As the second half commenced, down three goals to nil, Wilton rallied with a goal by Ola Jankowski, who powered the ball in on a penalty kick. The game then turned into a defensive stalemate except for a few quick scores by Trumbull. Kate Wickersham and Casey O’Connor kept on fighting, dribbling upfield and dodging through a maze of white jerseys until the final whistle.

Wilton’s 4th Grade Football Team has Season’s First Loss, Against New Canaan Black, 8-20

Heading into the weekend with a 4-0 record, the 4th Grade Wilton Warriors Football team were looking to beat New Canaan Black in their fifth straight win of the season. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

The first quarter started out with a bang as Curtis Jackson made a hard tackle, which led to a NC fumble-and-recover. NC made the most out of that recovery as their tailback exploded for a long TD run.

Wilton then dialed up its high octane offense with some nice runs by Kieran Wiseman, Craig O’Neill and Charlie Calabrese, which were made possible with some solid blocking upfront by Jackson, Max Totten, Quint Furman, Theo Satrazemis, Hunter Lishnoff and Cayden Stevens. The Warriors then capped of their drive with a long TD run by O’Neill. After Charlie Roy kicked the two-point after attempt, Wilton went up 8-6.

The second quarter became a defensive battle on both sides as Wilton clamped down upfront with Marco Chilla, Wiseman, Jack Bernard, Jack McMenamy, and Grant Santosky among others. Wilton’s linebacker corps of Calabrese, Jake Padilla, O’Neill, Blake Ongley, and Mason Behar shut down any forward momentum and the secondary of Emma VanHeyst, Trevien Goldman, Will Byrnes, Erik Kieran, and Michael Butler made sure that no big plays happened including any completed passes. The half came to a close after two completed passes from Calabrese, one to Roy and one to O’Neill.

New Canaan capitalized on a fumble at the beginning of the third quarter to regain the lead at 12-8 and later extended its lead to 20-8 after a quarterback keeper. Wilton mounted a good drive in the fourth but wasn’t able to eat into New Canaan’s lead.

Second Shut-Out in a Row for Wilton 7th Grade Blue, Beating Darien White 12-0

Wilton 7th Grade Blue was on the road again this past Saturday, closing out their road trip with their second shutout in a row. After holding Darien to a 3-and-out and forcing a punt on the first series, Wilton’s Quinn Stengrim ran back a 55-yd. punt behind blocks from Andrew Kress, Michael Colavecchio and Jake Enman. Wilton’s defense did not allow Darien to get anything started. Defensive standouts were Connor Sweeney on defensive line with multiple sacks and tackles for loss, and great tackling from Charlie Guglielmo and Xander Petrides. Wilton ended the first half with a 10-play scoring drive highlighted by Stengrim and Petrides hard running behind Wilton’s veteran offensive line of Luke Totten, Sweeney, Alexander Dempster, Jamie Cristini and Kress. A 15-yd. pass from Andrew Acosta-Rua to Christopher Capone put Wilton on the goal line and a blast up the middle by Petrides scored the touchdown. Wilton’s offense controlled the ball and the clock during the second half, while Wilton’s defense closed the door. This was another very solid team effort across the board.

Quinn Stengrim (#55) returns a Darien punt 55 yards behind a Michael Colavecchio (#28) block in Wilton 7 Blue’s 12-0 win last Saturday.

Wilton 5th Grade Blue Wins Battle of The Unbeaten, Beating New Canaan Red, 16-0

The Warriors matched up last Saturday evening against the only other unbeaten team in the 5th grade FCFL, New Canaan Red. In their first game ever without coaches on the field to call the plays, Wilton proved they were ready. On their first drive, the Warriors established the run early, with Cael Dexter, Luke Ginsburg and Jack Schwartz moving the ball steadily downfield behind blocking from Liam Murphy, Cole Siegel, Cole Galante, Liam McKiernen, Jack Huntley, Jack Santosky, David Schubkegel, Ryan Meenan, Vito Banner, Jaxon Thomas, CJ Young and Henry Soojian. Then, on just the sixth play of the drive, Liam Snyder found Ginsburg for a 40-yd. touchdown pass. Ginsburg hit the extra point to put Wilton up 8-0 early.

The offense kept the ball moving consistently, with Charlie Keller, James Jackowski, Ryan Luchetta and Ryan Stocker all gaining important yards for the Warriors, allowing Wilton to control the clock. After the half, Wilton came out of the “locker room” determined to get on the scoreboard again. Schwartz provided the initial spark, carrying the ball on four straight plays and gaining more than 35 yards right up the middle of the New Canaan defense. That success perfectly set up the counter play and Will Cristini took the ball around the left edge and ran 40 yards untouched for the second touchdown of the game. Another extra point by Ginsburg made the score 16-0.

The defense also came up with some big plays, including a strip-and-fumble recovery by Nate Jackson, and 17 tackles for a loss by Siegel, Meenan, Ray Ferranti, Dexter, Murphy, Maja Driscoll, Schwartz, Schubkegel and Snyder. Wilton’s defense posted its 4th shutout of the season, allowing New Canaan to gain some yards, but never letting them get close to the end zone. The Warriors were excited to get their 5th win of the season on the road.

Wilton 6th Grade White Falls to Westport Wreckers, 7-16

It was a glorious Sunday morning and the Wilton 6th Grade White Warriors battled hard at Westport’s PJ Romano Field, but in the end came up short.

Westport started with the ball and scored early on a solid drive capitalized by a touchdown run. Wilton answered shortly thereafter with a drive of its own, culminating in Peter Reyes’ fantastic run all the way into the end zone to put Wilton on the scoreboard. Ryan Smith’s extra point brought the score to 7-6 Wilton. Wilton’s defensive lines closed down Westport for the rest of the half due to the solid effort of Flynn Shipman, Jack Butler, Connor Wentzel, Liam Kiernan, Nate Roth and Jack Lauricella. The team missed Jai Satsangi, who was still sidelined with an injury. Great work on the offensive line and great blocks by Colin O’Neill, Owen Theoharides and Reyes gave QB Smith time to execute a beautiful spiral to Connor Flanagan and the ensuing run took Wilton close to the end zone, but the Wreckers defense stopped the drive close to the half.

It was Wilton’s ball to open the second half and the Wilton offensive efforts of Jack Kelly, Jason Costa, Will Fischer and Gavin Pierson helped move the ball down the field. An interception by Flanagan and a short pass caught by Cole Stevenson in traffic couldn’t answer Westport’s offensive gain. This week’s captains, Theoharides and O’Neill, played especially well on both sides of the ball.

Wilton 3rd Grade White Dominates Darien Blue, 27-6

Wilton’s 3rd Grade White football team had a dominating win on Saturday versus Darien Blue, winning by the final score of 27-6. The win for Wilton White brings their record to 3-2, with remaining games at Ridgefield and both New Canaan Red and Black teams. After a hard week of practice with the focus on blocking and tackling, the Wilton White squad showed their coaches their true potential!

The defense was led by stellar line play, with Mark Whitman, Wyatt Kreter and Billy Greef wreaking havoc all game. With Liam Pierson and Charlie Heffernan hitting hard and Mark Sylvester‘s speed at safety, Darien had trouble moving the ball all day. Defensive tackle Henry Snow made multiple tackles for losses on the day and was a force to be reckoned with on his 9th birthday (Happy Birthday Henry)!

Offensively, Wilton White had the first touchdown of the day, scored by Cody Korpan on a 30-yd. reverse, his first of the season. Wilton’s offensive line, led by Cole Herbst, Jaxon Lin and center Andrew Zareski, controlled Darien’s defensive front all day, allowing the Wilton RB’s to control the game from the start. Brady Corry had a big second quarter with TD runs of 43 yards, followed by a 57-yarder with 30 seconds remaining in the half, bringing the Wilton lead to 20-6.

Opening up with the ball in the third quarter, Wilton executed a 14-play, 12-minute drive to ice the game with a punishing Declan Jackson TD, followed by a great run by Dylan Flanagan for the conversion. Flanagan had multiple first downs on the game and was a force at MLB calling the Wilton defense.

Brady Corry runs for Wilton’s first Touchdown of the day!

Warrior 3rd Grade Blue Played Tough, but New Canaan Comes Out Ahead, 0-20

After New Canaan scored a touchdown early in the game, the Warrior Blue 3rd graders got tough on defense. They were able to stop New Canaan on several drives with big backfield tackles by August Furman, supported by strong play from Denny Dustin, Nick Skillin, Keegan Kazan, Michael Duarte, Trey Hall, Sawyer Fasano, Kayden Kazan, Kevin Macken and Wyatt Hoffstatter. New Canaan was able to score another touchdown off a long run as the clock expired in the first half.

Those same players on defense joined Hayden Leitten, Emmet Sommer, Noah Patania, Mathew Fogarty and center Michael Lenz to provide solid blocking on the offensive line for quarterback Colin Faherty and the Warrior running backs. Back on defense Dustin, Kazan, Faherty and Fasano also made crucial tackles while Hall had a big fumble recovery in the second half to keep the Warriors’ hopes alive.

While the Warriors’ offense was able to move the football, the end zone proved to be elusive. New Canaan was able to add a late game touchdown to seal their 0-20 win. Despite disappointment in the final outcome, the Warrior Blue Team played a tough, physical game against a challenging opponent. The boys are fired up to get back to practice and prepare for next week’s game!
