Wilton BU10 Blue Falls to Stamford Hurricanes, 1-7
The Wilton Warrior Boys U10 Blue soccer team opened its season on the road on Sunday against the Stamford Hurricanes. The defensive line up of Boden Davi, Blake Ongley and Greg Bocchino defended well under heavy pressure from Stamford. Wilton’s mid-fielders Cooper Buchichio, Brendan Morris and Peter Braid worked hard throughout both halves to move the ball up the field, while Wilton goalies Bocchino and Ongley deflected multiple shots on the Wilton goal.
After a perfect assist by Morris, Wilton’s Liam Joy struck one into the net for the team’s only goal of the game.
Brad Mallory, Nick Marini, Harrison DeStefano and Michael Dilullo all made several great runs toward the goal, but were unable to get past Stamford’s strong defense. Final score was 1-7.
Wilton 2007 Boys Blue Beat Weston, 1-0
The Wilton Boys 2007 Blue team beat Weston 1-0 on a goal from Amit Solomon with an assist from Maddox Backman. Both Jack Crossen and Finn Burke pressed and fed the Wilton offense of Alessandro Ochoa, Andrew Partenza, Charlie Roy, Luke Perna and Matt De Masi who all had shots on goal and kept Weston on their heels. The Wilton defense anchored by Stefano Cross, Jack Barker and Jack Vermeulen were solid and shut down Weston’s offense. Will Soucy earned his first clean sheet of the season making multiple diving saves in goal.
Wilton 2009 Boys Blue Team Play Hard Against. Stamford Hurricanes, but Lose 1-7

The Wilton 2009 Boys Blue Soccer Team showed true grit and much improvement in a disappointing 7-1 loss in their opening game of the season against an impressive Stamford Hurricanes team on Saturday. Led by coach Jimmy Ocampo, the boys played hard and never gave up, demonstrating speed, skilled footwork and precision-passing. Conor Filip showed great heart and determination in goal, making several great saves, but despite determined playmaking from Gavin Levenherz, Liam Backman and Caio Thakur, and tenacious defensive-play by Ryan Vermeulen, Sean Kaliski, Giacomo De Paola and Mario Coppola, the first half ended 4-0 in favor of Stamford.
But the boys came out feeling rejuvenated and determined in the second half, keeping the ball in Stamford’s end for most of the period. After a couple great shots on goal by Jack Mulfinger, Wilton finally scored against a tough Stamford goalie. Joshua Comiskey put the ball in the net on a key assist from Jacob Albanese, and a hearty, full-team celebration ensued.
No player walked away from Saturday’s loss with his head down. Wilton’s positive spirit and toughness remained intact throughout the game, and they should be very proud of this hard-fought first effort.

Wilton 8 White Edges Ridgefield 8 Black 14-13
Wilton 8 White fought back from a disappointing 7-14 week-one loss to Fairfield 8 Black, to avenge last season’s last-second loss to Ridgefield. Wilton scored first in the second quarter behind a 54 yard touchdown burst up the middle by Joe deGrasse, who powered behind a wedge of blockers that included Ryan Farrar, Joe Schiavone, Jimmy Luce, Michael Breen, Ciara Garcia, Danny Doran, Ben Pond, Christian Bazarian and Chris Calderone. Ridgefield fought back and tied the game 7-7 with a touchdown pass with less than one minute to go in the first half.

Wilton took the lead for good late in the third quarter on a scramble by quarterback Grant Masterson, who avoided pressure to hit Parker Woodring, who outran the defense for a 65-yard touchdown. Woodring successfully kicked both extra points. In an exact repeat of last year’s heartbreaking loss, Ridgefield scored on a running play with less than one minute to play. Ridgefield decided to go for two, but was stopped at the one inch line as linebacker Silva stopped the receiver just shy of the goal line to seal the victory.
Wilton 5th Grade Blue Records Second Win of Season Over Ridgefield, 24-8

Wilton 5th Grade Blue had another strong performance on Sunday against a tough Ridgefield team. Strong running by Cael Dexter, Jack Schwartz, Luke Ginsburg and James Jackowski got the Warriors into the red zone and a key 4th and long pass from Liam Snyder to Ginsburg set Wilton up for the score.
Two plays later, Snyder followed a strong push by offensive lineman Jack Huntley, Ryan Meenan, Cole Siegel, Jaxon Thomas, CJ Young and Henry Soojian for the touchdown. Wilton’s next two touchdowns came on big plays, with Dexter scampering 55-yards down the sideline and Charlie Keller executing a perfect fake reverse to score from 15 yards out. Three successful PAT’s by Ginsburg had the Warriors up 24-0 early in the 3rd quarter. Wilton’s defense continued to dominate, forcing Ridgefield into three and out punting situations on six of their 8 drives. Nate Jackson led the defense with six tackles and Ryan Stocker, Maja Driscoll, Ray Ferranti, Vito Banner, Jack Santosky, David Schubkegel and Liam McKiernan made important contributions to the defensive effort with at least one tackle each. One big play by Ridgefield led to their only score of the day, and the Warriors took the victory with a final score of 24-8.

Wilton/New Canaan Rivalry Kept at Tie for Wilton 7 Blue, 14-14

In a rivalry game that had a playoff-type feel, Wilton 7 Blue battled New Canaan Red Sunday at Fujitani field. Wilton started on defense and set the tone early with a Michael Colavecchio tackle for a loss. However, New Canaan was able score on a long crossing route pass and broken defense. A gang tackle by Jamie Cristini, Xander Petrides, Quinn Stengrim and Christopher Capone denied New Canaan the extra point.
On their first offensive series, Wilton was able to move the ball past midfield on runs by Stengrim, Spencer Liston and Petrides. Wilton’s offensive line of Luke Totten, Connor Sweeney, Alexander Dempster, Cristini and Andrew Kress was once again able to establish the run. Andrew Acosta-Rua connected with Caleb Rath for a 51-yard touchdown pass. Wilton was also unable to convert the extra point leaving the score at 6-6.
On New Canaan’s next offensive series corner back Rath intercepted a pass putting Wilton on midfield. With hard running from Petrides, Stengrim and Capone and a pass interference penalty, Wilton was able to march the ball to inside the New Canaan 20 yard line. With no time left on the clock Acosta-Rua was able to connect with Rath in the back of the end zone to put up their second score of the game. Nicholas Walden pulled down a pass to the back right corner of the end zone to convert the 2 point conversion, bringing the score to 14-6 at the half.
Wilton started the second half with the ball but was soon forced to punt after a series of penalties. However, a 52-yard punt from Kress with no return pinned New Canaan inside their 20. New Cannan’s drive stalled and they were forced to punt the ball back to Wilton. A 32-yard punt return by Stengrim put Wilton in New Canaan territory but Wilton was not able to capitalize mainly because of more penalties. Wilton was again forced to punt the ball back to New Canaan, however this time the New Canaan returner broke a tackle, found a seam, and returned the punt for a touchdown. New Canaan added the 2 point conversion to bring the score to 14-14.
On the 4th play on the next offensive series, while trying to go for the quick strike, Wilton turned the ball over, leaving New Canaan on Wilton’s 42 yard line. Although Wilton’s defense held strong New Canaan was able to drive the ball to inside the Wilton 2 yard line and chew up the clock. New Canaan ran seven plays inside the Wilton 12 yard line but were unable to score as Wilton’s defense came up big each time. A tremendous defensive play by corner back Charlie Guglielmo knocking a slant pass down and several huge gang tackles that included Petrides, Stengrim and Walden and many others saved the game.
