Located at the Wilton Town Green, next to Sunshine Foot Spa, Wilton Pediatric Dentistry officially opened its doors last week as the first pediatric dental practice in Wilton. Board-certified, pediatric dentist Dr. Ashleigh Sebro found her way to Wilton after working in offices in New York City and Norwalk. After purchasing a home with her husband in the Cranbury section of Norwalk, she learned Wilton didn’t yet have a pediatric dental practice, making it an ideal community for her in which to open a boutique practice.

To say hello and offer a chance to meet her, Sebro is inviting the public to her office today from 3-6 p.m. for an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony.

Pediatric dentists focus on the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry describes pediatric dentistry as an “age-defined specialty that provides both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs.”

“A lot of times adult dentists won’t see children before the age of three. But since children’s teeth can come in as early as six months, that’s really the time to start creating healthy dental habits,” Sebro explains.

She believes those habits are more likely to take root if the approach to dentistry is conservative. “My staff and I are focused on offering a welcoming environment, where children feel comfortable and get to know their dental team. Our space feels more like a home with state-of the-art-technology to ensure the delivery of exceptional dental care.”

Currently, Wilton Pediatric Dentistry includes Sebro, a dental assistant, and a receptionist. While her plan is to add more staff as the practice gets busier, Sebro admits to being very particular about ensuring a familial feel in order to build strong relationships.

“I’ve worked in the more corporate model where you are never sure if you will see the same dentist each time you go. I didn’t enjoy not being able to follow my patients as they grew and became more acclimated to the dentist. I found the model doesn’t lend itself to that personalized level of care that I strive to provide. As anyone who works with kids knows, gaining that trust and comfort is key to success and I believe that having the same dentist every time is integral to a successful dental relationship.”

Sebro received her Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University in Montreal and went on to pursue her DDS at SUNY Buffalo, eventually graduating cum laude. After dental school, she furthered her training with an advanced education in pediatric dentistry at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Her board certification with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, is the highest accreditation.

Wilton Pediatric Dentistry is open for appointments 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays. Sebro and her staff look forward to helping Wilton’s younger population develop positive dental habits for life.
