Epee fencer Ian Sanders, a rising senior at Wilton High School, is headed to Dallas for the USA Fencing Association’s National Competition which runs from June 29 – July 8. Sanders will fence in two epee classes, Men’s Division 1-A (151 competitors) and the July Challenge for Juniors (229 competitors); both required qualification.
Sanders has come into his own with a series of successes in 2016. This spring he won silver at the Connecticut High School Fencing Championship and was named a Connecticut All State Athlete by the CT High School Fencing Association. He won silver again at a Boston Fencing Club RJCC regional competition in April. In January he won a gold medal at one of the largest national cadet men’s Epee tournaments, the Capitol Clash in Washington DC, and competed in the Junior Olympics in Cleveland, Ohio.
He trains at Stamford Fencing Center with coach Andrey Chushko.
