With so many local businesses taking a big hit amid the Coronavirus pandemic, Wilton’s first and only 100% tree nut, peanut and sesame-free bakery, The Painted Cookie, feels lucky to be celebrating its 8th anniversary.
“I am so incredibly grateful to our amazing community for banding together to help keep our shop doors open for the past nine months let alone the past eight years! I am so honored that our customers have stood by us,” owner Susan Schmitt said.
Since 2013, the Wilton resident has built her business on a simple notion–creating allergy-free and delicious treats that everyone can enjoy. And her mission continues to evolve to this day with the addition of vegan, dairy-free, egg-free and gluten-free (all made on shared equipment) treats to order.
And while the global pandemic may have challenged The Painted Cookie, it didn’t slow down the business. Schmitt added more robust shipping options in an effort to get treats into homes across the country.
She also expanded the kitchen area production to allow more space to accommodate a larger variety of allergy-free options. This includes the Painted Cookie’s bake and decorate dough Kits, bake-to-order chocolate chip cookies, biscottis and edible cookie dough, all available in regular, gluten-free, vegan and dairy-free options. Other fun food craft activities include coloring cookies and decorate-your-own cookie kits. Most recently, The Painted Cookie has added an edible ink cookie printer, which will make it possible to create “last minute” orders and to add photo cookies to celebration platters.
“We’re looking forward to creating more cookie crafts for family fun and keep an eye out for some cute Valentine’s Day house sets and decorating kits very soon,” Schmitt said
Currently, The Painted Cookie’s retail shop is open and customers are welcome to come into the store to shop. There is also the option to order ahead online or call directly at 203.529.3680 for in-store or curbside pickup. Customers can also email with any questions.
The Painted Cookie is located at 196 Danbury Road (RT 7) in Wilton, CT.
