Girls Soccer

Wilton Blue Girls U10 Soccer Fights Hard but Loses 4-2 to New Canaan

Wilton Blue Girls U10 fought a tough battle Sunday, May 15, with a final score not indicative of the strong play on the field. In the first half, Wilton dominated play with the dynamic duo of Isabel Barbieri and Ashleigh Masterson on the offense, peppering the talented New Canaan goalkeeper with shots. Jane Hughes anchored the Wilton defense in goal, thwarting the opposition’s attempts to score. The defensive line was a brick wall led by the stealth passing of Lindsay Morin, the persistence of Molly Kaeyer and the powerful throw-ins by Brooke Aleksiejczyk.

The first half almost went without a tally until the opponent scored right before the whistle blew. Wilton started the 2nd half with a vengeance, when Grace O’Connor executed a perfect pass to Addison Pattillo, who tied the game 1-1. The opposition fired right back to move ahead. Alexa Furst’s fancy footwork in the midfield, combined with great passing by Fiona Gibbons, Josie Goldman and Siena McDermott swiftly moved the ball down the field.

Morgan Breakey displayed true grit, battling the opponent to perfectly position the ball, resulting in a score by O’Connor to tie the game at 2-2. Despite play that ensued at both ends of the field, the opponent executed 2 more goals, including a penalty shot, ending the game at 2-4.

Boys Soccer

Wilton Boys U12 Blue Triumphs Over Darien 8-2

U12 boys soccer 5-18-16
The Wilton Boys U12 Blue team traveled to Darien on Sunday, May 15 to play their fourth game of the season. With two losses and one tie this season the boys were determined to win this game. Their coach, James Mallet, was impressed at their high energy and how well they played together as a team.
Wilton took control right from the start when Micheal Cooper fired in the first goal giving the entire team the push they needed to keep the run. The strong defense of Dylan Bender, Tommy Lowell, Luke Medalla and Scott Mills was incredible. Their determination was matched by the unwavering midfield of Robbie Ballentine, Luke Barbieri, Jack Dodman, Christian Marroquin, Matthew Tabet, Amir Savovic, Ross Edkins and Tyler Moody.
The second goal was booted in by Tabet off a perfectly executed pass from Cooper. Tabet would continue his run and score the third goal of the game. Moody would fire in both the fourth and fifth goals off an impressive strong right foot. Ryan Leung was steadfast in goal, allowing Darien to score only one goal ending the first half 5-1.
In the second half, Wilton came back even stronger with impressive dribbling, passing, and multiple shots on goal. Wilton’s sixth goal was by Tabet with the assist from Marroquin, to complete his hat trick. With the assist from Moody, the seventh goal was made with great movement and finish by Cooper.
Wilton’s final goal was off a brilliant corner kick assist by Moody, as Savovic squared the ball and knocked it in right past the goalie. Dodman was Wilton’s goalie for the second half, making multiple incredible saves and allowing Darien to score only once in the second half, leaving the ending score at 8-2 Wilton. Missing from the game was Matt Tully.
