This summer, the plastics are coming to the Wilton High School Little Theater, and it’s going to be so fetch!

Wiremill Academy, the beloved Georgetown theatre program, is putting on Mean Girls High School Edition. Based on Tina Fey’s 2004 hit movie of the same name, this musical premiered on Broadway in 2018 and was nominated for 12 Tonys, including Best Musical.

With a cast of 34 actors ages 15-19, Mean Girls is Wiremill’s first show with produced with high school- and college-aged participants. The show is full of biting humor, catchy songs and bold choreography.

Rated PG-13, Mean Girls centers around a high school junior named Cady Heron (Koko Layne) who has just moved from Africa to a school in a Chicago suburb. At Northshore High School, she meets Damian Hubbard (Finn Ryder) and Janis Sarkisian (Shae Farago), two quirky friends who take Cady under their wing. In navigating Northshore High’s social scene, Cady falls into a snarky, stylish girl group — “the Plastics,” played by Ellis Nichols, Sayuki Layne and Gabby Charhon. The book, written by Fey herself, will surely leave the audience rolling with laughter.

“It’s fun, fun, fun all around,” Kenji Aoki Perretz, who plays ‘Aaron Samuels’ in this production, described it. Aurelia Martin (Mrs. George and ensemble) called it “energetic,” and other cast members used the words “cool,” “campy” and “awesome.”

The show is directed by Mary Jo Duffy, choreographed by WHS alum Jorie Janeway, and music directed by WHS choir teacher Will Mandelbaum. The band will feature mostly WHS students.

Ensemble member Harper Crawford described the uniquely student-driven nature of Wiremill’s production as “inspirational.” Sayuki Layne, longtime Wiremill student, the producer of this Mean Girls production, and the actor behind the character Gretchen Wieners, agreed, calling Wiremill Academy “an awesome community” full of “wonderful people who really love to make art.”

The cast and crew of Mean Girls also includes Maria Paschalidis, Noah van den Heuvel, Aurelia Martin, Daisy Beach, Sophia Devito, Will DeBernardis, Emmy Baer, Haldan Dickinson, Aidan Cannavino, Annabel Darst, Taylor Halfacre, Grace Fanelli, Melody Jones, Elizabeth Campbell, Gopika Kaimal, Kara Mobyed, Emma Kong, Simone Alexa Lupo, Ellie Meyer, McKenna Rooney, Kiara Suri, Maddy Passaro, Mia Timnev, Grace Hoermann and Harper Cowen.

The show is approximately two hours long and will run at the Wilton High School Little Theatre on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12, both at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 dollars. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the show’s webpage.
