With Coronavirus in Mind, Wilton Go Green Cancels 2020 Zero Waste Faire

Wilton Go Green announced Monday that the group has decided to cancel the Zero Waste Faire scheduled for Sunday, March 29. In a letter to supporters, WGG president and event co-chair Tammy Thornton wrote that the decision was made in consideration of public alerts and warnings about coronavirus.

“The Zero Waste Faire and Sustainable Living Expo is intended to educate and inspire the public through discussion and interaction. This cannot be achieved if the authorities are warning people to avoid crowds and unnecessary gatherings. We also do not want to put anyone at risk,” Thornton wrote.

She also noted that with Connecticut’s first confirmed case of the virus identified over the weekend as a Wilton resident, organizers could no longer move forward, writing, “We could no longer see a path forward that would allow the event we have all worked to achieve.”

The event will not be rescheduled this year.

Dear Wilton Go Green Supporters,

It is with deep disappointment that we inform you of our decision to cancel the Zero Waste Faire & Sustainable Living Expo for 2020.

Over the last few weeks we have been monitoring the spread of the COVID19 virus, discussing and reviewing our options. The Zero Waste Faire and Sustainable Living Expo is intended to educate and inspire the public through discussion and interaction. This cannot be achieved if the authorities are warning people to avoid crowds and unnecessary gatherings. We also do not want to put anyone at risk. With the Governor’s announcement on Sunday that the first confirmed case in CT is a Wilton resident, we could no longer see a path forward that would allow the event we have all worked to achieve.

Since we are unsure of the timeline for this public health emergency, it did not seem wise to try and reschedule for this calendar year. We will be working to secure our date for 2021 in the coming months and will share that date with you as soon as we have it so you too can mark your calendars.

We have been thrilled by the tremendous support and phenomenal growth of the Zero Waste Faire from 30 to 103 exhibitors in 3 years! We cannot express how much all the enthusiasm from our committee members, community members, sponsors and exhibitors has meant to us.

On behalf of our entire Zero Waste Faire Committee and Wilton Go Green Board, we are so grateful for your excitement and support of this year’s Faire.

We knew it was going to be an amazing year!!

With great patience and your continued support we will revive this energy and look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Sincerely,

Tammy Thornton
