The fairy tale wedding of an American actress marrying Prince Charming plays out in real life this Saturday, May 19, when Meghan Markle says, ‘I do’ to England’s Prince Harry. Many Wilton residents will be watching, either live or on recorded delay. For those who want to tune in and add a dash of very British flavor, there’s are a couple distinctive Wilton twists to consider adding.
The newly-formed Brit Club will be hosting a “Right Royal Knees-Up” party in celebration of the royal nuptials. ‘Knees-Up’ is Cockney slang for a big party. The celebration is being held at the home of one of the club’s Committee members in Wilton on Saturday evening at 7 p.m..
Linda Abou-Sabh, one of the Brit Club founders, says membership to the Club is open to anyone born in the United Kingdom. Anyone wishing to experience a Club event before committing to join can attend The Royal Knees-Up. The party is BYOB and $20 per head (paid at the door) for hors d’oeuvres and dinner. The (pre-recorded) Royal Wedding will be played on a large screen (and for any soccer fans, the FA Cup final will be played on a separate TV in another room). For more information reach out to Abou-Sabh via email or by calling 203.529.3419.
What to Eat, Drink and Serve
Wilton’s newest store, Goldenberry, is a perfect place to pick up any accoutrements or treats to serve at a viewing event. Owner Deb Hecht has every possible option.
One must is Elderflower syrup, perfect for making a cocktail to toast the royal couple (add to champagne and club soda). Elderflower will be the flavoring of their wedding cake too.
Mini tarts, cakes and treats are plentiful at Goldenberry, including Bakewells and Battenbergs. If you’ll be serving a traditional English breakfast, Hecht stocks imported bangers, meats, beans and, of course, tea. Of course, you’ll need a commemorative dishtowel and decorations to make it a complete celebration.
Goldenberry is located in the Wilton River Park Shopping Center (5 River Rd.).
