While today is July and still technically midsummer, Wilton Public Schools are already gearing up for the 2015-16 school year. Some Wilton students and their parents will hit the first milestone as early as next week when the much anticipated classroom and teacher assignments are made available online for Miller-Driscoll (K-grade 2) and Cider Mill (grades 3-5) students.
Skip Ploss, webmaster for the Wilton school district, confirmed what aides in the main offices at each of the elementary schools reported: if all goes according to plan, Cider Mill families will be able to find out who their children’s teachers will be by late afternoon on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The same is true for Miller-Driscoll families–at least those in 1st and 2nd grader, as kindergarten families will be notified by mail.
Middlebrook students will have to wait a little longer, say school officials at the town’s sole middle school; color, team and schedule information will be available on Wednesday, Aug. 19, with that date still reportedly “a goal.” (At press time, GMW hasn’t yet learned about the schedules for Wilton High School students but some parents have reported that they’ve been told Monday, Aug. 17 as a date the schedule information will be accessible).
Because the school district’s webmasters are also working on overall updates to the Edline websites, the dates are all still considered goals, and not written in stone. District webmasters are looking to introduce the revised website with a cleaner, better organized interface based on user feedback. They say while the changes roll out over the first week of August, there may be possible temporary interruptions that they’ll be working to restore as quickly as possible.
As the district’s director of technology Mathew Hepfer pointed out last year to GOOD Morning Wilton, there are links for Edline users on the website to contact webmasters at each school if they encounter problems. “That’s the most efficient, first stop. Parents can also call the schools during school hours and the school secretaries can help also.”
GOOD Morning Wilton will continue to work to confirm more concrete dates for schedule and classroom information availability as well as all upcoming important dates related to Back to School activities.
