Friday, May 9

  • Underground Railroad Program for Adults, Ambler Farm7:30 – 9:30 p.m.:  Experience the travels of an 1850’s runaway slave, moving from safe house to safe house with your conductor, meeting Harriet Tubman, William Wakeman, a sheriff, and a bounty hunter along the way. This program is adapted from Ambler’s highly successful fifth grade program.  Be prepared for an enlightening simulation with some moments of surprise/suspense. The 1 hr. 15 min. simulation will be followed by a wine and cheese reception/discussion. Please dress for the outdoors at dusk. This program is not recommended for those with heart or mobility problems. Cost is $40 member, $45/non-member, and advance Registration is required.
  • Grey Rocks plays Wilton Library, 7–8:30 p.m.: Teen band “Grey Rocks” is playing for fresh water! Band members Cole Smith, Ryan Amodei, Wes Wallace and Forest Rappaport, in conjunction with Wilton High School’s Interact Club, want to raise funds to purchase Life Straws. A life straw filters polluted water, allowing a person to drink safely. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults. Proceeds go directly the purchase of Life Straws and will be distributed to needy areas worldwide by Americares. Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Roadwww.wiltonlibrary.org; (203) 762-3950.

Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10

  • The Wilton Singers presents “Hellos & Goodbyes” at the WEPCO Complex, 48 New Canaan Road.  The program’s musical focus echoes the evening’s theme, featuring diverse audience favorites including show tunes like “Getting to Know You” from the King & I and Hairspray’s “You Can’t Stop the Beat” to contemporary selections like Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and the Beatles’ “Hello Goodbye.” Doors open at 7 p.m., concert begins at 8 p.m., tickets are $30.
  • The Wilton Garden Club will hold its 75th Mother’s Day Plant Sale on Friday, May 9 from noon-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m.-noon, rain or shine at the Town Green.

Saturday, May 10

  • Vote! Town Budget Vote, Wilton High School Clune Auditorium 9 a.m.-6 p.m.: Wilton residents have the right (and responsibility) to vote on the town’s annual budget for FY ’15. For more information, see GOOD Morning Wilton’s past coverage.
  • Organic Transplants for Sale, 9am-noon in front of Ambler Farm’s White Carriage Barn: Come get your transplants (all were started from organic seedlings in the Ambler Farm greenhouse)! There will be  cold weather crops (lettuce, kale, chard, and others) this week — all ready to be planted in your home garden.  Transplants will be sold every Saturday until the Ambler Farm farm stand opens on June 7.
  • Cat Adoption Open House at Animals in Distress, 1-4 p.m., 238 Danbury Rd.  203-762-2006
  • Fun with Percussion! 10-11 a.m., Wilton Library: Children ages 3-10 are invited to this hands-on percussion jam!  Members of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will demonstrate a variety of percussion instruments.  Kids will have a chance to play along and learn some fun facts about music along the way. Children need caregivers present and registration is recommended, no fee.
  • This weekend, your mail carrier is hoping your mailbox is full of items to pickup. That’s because Saturday, May 10 is the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. Locally, food collected will be delivered to Person-to-Person (P2P); any food donations in Wilton will be given to P2P’s Norwalk Emergency Food Pantry, which serves people in Weston, Westport, Wilton and Norwalk and is sourced by several partner agencies including Domestic Violence Crisis Center and Open Door Shelter.

Sunday, May 11

  • Mother’s Day:  Call your mom, tell her she’s your most favorite person in the world and you’re grateful for everything she’s done for you–and that you love her!

All Weekend

  • The Georgetown Lions Club will host its annual carnival Thursday, May 8 through Sunday May 11, on Rt. 7 at School St. next to the Wilton High School tennis courts. Friday 7-10 p.m.; Saturday 1-10 p.m.; and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Bracelets cost $25 and are good for unlimited rides for the entire calendar day.
