Mid-morning on Monday, July 1, Aquarion alerted Town of Wilton officials that a power outage caused by Sunday’s storm temporarily disrupted a water pump station. As a result customers in Wilton on city water may have experienced water discoloration and a drop in water flow.

Many Wilton customers began reporting brown water coming from the tap Sunday evening.

Wilton officials posted an alert on the town website relaying Aquarion’s message:

“Due to a storm power outage, Aquarion’s Wilton Road pump station lost power and switched to backup power. This created a disturbance in water flows. Some customers may be experiencing water discoloration. Customers should run their cold water faucets until the water runs clear. If the water does not clear after 15 minutes, please contact our customer service center at 1.800.732.9678.”

The storm also brought down trees, prompting police to temporarily close New Canaan Rd. and Belden Hill Rd., and knocked out power Sunday afternoon to more than 330 Eversource customers in Wilton. As of 11 a.m. on Monday morning, all but 10 customers have had power restored.
