These days, “Back to School” always means a parents’ open house to meet the teacher. But this Sunday, you can attend a Back to School open house and go back in time all at once–just, don’t forget your bonnet or writing slate when you meet your schoolmarm!
This Sunday, Oct. 1, Wilton’s Hurlbutt Street Schoolhouse is hosting its annual Open House, from 2-5 p.m.. Step back in time more than 100 years and glimpse a piece of Wilton history. See how Wilton kids of yesteryear learned and lived, all in just one room. Get a feel for what it was like to learn when hornbooks, wood burning stoves and outhouses were part of daily school life.
The Open House is happening the same day as Ambler Farm Day, so visitors can enjoy their time at the farm, and then stop by the Hurlbutt Street Schoolhouse at 157 Hurlbutt St., only a short drive down the road from Ambler Farm. Cider and donuts will be served and all are welcome.
