Following the success of last month’s “Rediscovering Passion and Purpose” event, life coach and motivational speaker Alison Jacobson will be at Cactus Rose Restaurant and Tequila Bar on Monday, June 2 for “Caring for the Caregiver.” This is the second event in her women’s empowerment series “What About ME??” which is designed to help women deal with the pressures and struggles they face in their various roles.
Caring for the Caregiver will specifically address the challenges women are dealing with as part of the sandwich generation and caring for their aging parents.
“This is an issue the affects so many of us today,” explains Jacobson. “We are being torn in various directions, trying to manage the daily activities of our kids while at the same time addressing the very real challenges of our parents and in-laws who are getting older and facing health issues. In the end, we’re forgetting to take care of ourselves and are becoming physically ill and emotionally exhausted.”
As the caregiver for her disabled son and husband and having helped care for her father who recently passed away from Alzheimer’s, Jacobson understands only too well these pressures and has learned ways to manage the stressors. Joining her will be Karen Sackowitz, Wilton resident and owner of Your Stories Ink, who will talk about the benefits of journaling for relaxation but also chronicling the personal narrative of aging family members. Additionally, Geriatric and Disability Care Manager Joan Garbow, MSW, LCSW, CCM and Elder Law Attorney Ann Fowler-Cruz from Cohen and Wolf will be on hand to help address specific questions regarding the legal and social aspects of elder care.
The event starts at 7 p.m. and admission is $30, which includes a cocktail, appetizer, tax and gratuity. Proceeds from the event will go to the CT Alzheimer’s Association. To RSVP for the event e-mail info@safetymom.com or call 203.273.2141.
