For the first time since the Wilton Chamber of Commerce created the Scarecrow Fest four years ago, the people have chosen a GOOD Morning Wilton “People’s Choice” award winning scarecrow!

After we posted the gallery of photos of all the scarecrows on our Facebook page and asked readers to cast their votes by ‘liking’ the photos, the clear choice of the people, with 178 votes, was the “Charlotte’s Web” scarecrow, created by Our Lady of Fatima School.

The runner-up was the unique “Mork” scarecrow created by William Pitt Sotheby’s, in memory of comedian Robin Williams. That scarecrow received 113 ‘likes.’

The scarecrows were hung up in Wilton Center the week before the Wilton Chamber’s Pumpkin Parade + Trick-or-Treating on Saturday, Oct. 27. The winners chosen by the judges of this year’s Scarecrow Fest were announced to the public at the start of the parade.

The contest, open to Wilton-based businesses, organizations, clubs and families, challenged participants to construct creative scarecrows, displayed during the last two weeks of October in Wilton Center. New this year, contestants were challenged to create their straw men, and women, around the “Movie & TV Character” theme.

Rounding out this year’s judging panel was Wilton superintendent of schools, Dr. Kevin Smith; Wilton Bulletin editor, Jeannette Ross; Officer Diane MacLean of the Wilton Police Department; Scoops of Wilton owner, Kevin Wall; and Wilton photographer, Peggy Garbus. This year’s winners chosen by the judges were:

“This year’s entries were extraordinary and our participants truly outdid themselves,” said Chamber president Patrick Russo. “The Chamber would like to thank Wilton Parks & Recreation for carefully installing each scarecrow, Trackside Teen Center for their support, and the Wilton community for their outstanding creativity and continued dedication. We are thrilled that this has become one of Wilton’s favorite traditions, and are looking forward to next year.”
