Dr. Annette Czernik is a dermatologist with a mission. She wants to make sure everyone knows how important it is to regularly screen for skin cancer and minimize the risk.

It’s a mission she’s now carrying out at her new Wilton office, which she opened in the very convenient location at 396 Danbury Rd., right across Rte. 7 from Wilton High School.

When Czernik and her husband, Brian, moved with their young son to Connecticut last year, she chose Wilton as the ideal place to open in private practice. She founded DermMedical because she identified a gap in high quality, accessible dermatological care in the heart of Wilton.

“As a mother and professional I know how hard it is to coordinate all the ‘to-dos’ for yourself and family. Needing to see a doctor and not being able to get quality, professional care in a timely and convenient manner only compounds this stress and worry. Too often when you need care it is not available, and urgent care centers and emergency room providers are not trained to treat skin conditions. Our goal is to bring professional, top-notch skin care available to everyone,” she explained.

Czernik moved from New York City where she worked in academics. She taught dermatology residents at Mt. Sinai Hospital, which she said she loved doing.

“I’ve dedicated over 10 years to working in academic medicine, teaching dermatology residents, and working on clinical trials aimed to advance treatments in complex medical dermatology,” she said. She’s hoping to continue blending those clinical and academic skills together at DermMedical, provide exceptional patient care while training other providers to deliver the same.

Her own academic experience is impressive. After graduating from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, she completed her internship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a residency at the University of California, Irvine, and her fellowship at NYU Medical Center.

Now here in Fairfield County, she’s affiliated with Nuvance Health and Norwalk Hospital, and will add teaching at Yale-New Haven Hospital to her continued work with Mt. Sinai residents.

Czernik treats a variety of skin conditions for patients of all ages, pediatric to mature, with a comprehensive and individualized approach to dermatologic care in a modern setting.

Top of the list of medical dermatology treatments Czernik specializes in is skin cancer screening — something the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends all adults do annually — as well as shingles, atopic dermatitis, Autoimmune skin diseases, nail diseases, hair loss, wound care, and more.

DermMedical is also home to the Acne Treatment Center, which offers individualized treatments including medical therapies such as topical therapies, skin care routines, oral prescriptions and surgical and cosmetic therapies (chemical peels, microneedling, laser therapy and light therapy).

Czernik also offers procedural dermatology, the subspecialty within dermatology that encompasses both medical and cosmetic enhancements including cryosurgery, laser therapy, botox, volume restoration and skin cancer removal.

To encourage more skin screenings, and to celebrate the opening of DermMedical, Czernik is offering a chance to win free Botox to new patients who schedule a full body skin check in 2022. All Botox has been generously donated by the Botox manufacturer, Allergan.

Above all, Czernik is hoping to become an involved member of the community and earn Wilton’s trust.

“I really am excited to be part of Wilton. I know it’s a town with people who look out for one another, and it’s my mission to add my skills to help look out for my patients, my new neighbors,” Czernik said.
