The National Weather Service has posted a long-range Hazardous Weather Outlook for this weekend, raising the possibility that Wilton will see a major snowstorm.

According to the NWS, there is the potential for a coastal storm to bring heavy snowfall
and high winds to portions of the area Friday night into Saturday night. The forecast notes that there are still “uncertainties” with the track and intensity of the coastal storm and its resulting potential impacts.

Tuesday afternoon, the NWS twitter account posted the following update, indicating the storm could bring “significant winter impacts”:

“Confidence is increasing that a coastal storm will bring significant winter impacts to parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including the I-95 major metro areas, Friday through the weekend. Heavy snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding are all possible.”

Various forecasters and weather watchers are pointing to European models that signal a major event, but depending on how the storm tracks, western Connecticut may only see light snow, with the likelihood increasing of more substantial amounts further north and east into New England.
