The Wilton Conservation Commission has put out a “desperate” call for volunteers for a trail building project at Wilton’s Quarry Head Park this Saturday, June 11 from 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m..
Dave Francefort, a volunteer from Fairfield County New England Mountain Bike Association (fcnemba.org) and Donna Merrill of the Wilton Conservation Commission are planning a work day to re-route the red trail from the picnic area to the brook. The work involves using tools such as shovels and rakes to re-route the trail. The new trail layout will create a sustainable trail and alleviate existing soil erosion problems in the park.
Quarry Head Park is located on Ridgefield Rd. just north of Wilton Fire Station #2. A brown sign hangs above the park entrance, which is easy to miss because it looks like a narrow, residential driveway, between 760 and 764 Ridgefield Rd. on the east side of the road (see photo below).
A training session and safety talk will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. and volunteers will work together until 1 p.m. when they will finish for the day and enjoy a free pizza lunch. A total of 25 strong-bodied people are needed to complete the bulk of the work in the 4-hour time frame. Work gloves, tools, lunch and drinks will be provided.
Anyone that is willing to volunteer is asked to email or call Donna Merrill directly at 203.834.0128.
