The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality action day for Wilton and Fairfield County. The alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The National Weather Service is predicting high temperatures of 90-95 degrees with a heat index in the mid- to upper-90s for Wednesday as well.
An air quality action day means that ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, according to www.weather.gov.
On Thursday, the NWS is predicting scattered to numerous heavy showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon into the evening. A few strong to severe storms are possible, with localized flash flood threat.
