Ambler Farm has created two opportunities for at-home gardeners to get great tips and information about creating their own nature’s bounty right at home. The Farm’s director of agriculture, Farmer Jonathan Kirschner will help novice-to-experienced gardeners green-up not just their thumbs but every finger.

Wilton’s Janell Federico won a home garden consultation package with Farmer Jonathan at an Ambler Farm event. “I learned more from Jonathan in the short space of time and more than doubled my gardening expertise. He fired up my enthusiasm for gardening and I can’t wait to get started on this year’s crop! I would highly recommend working with him!”

The first opportunity is a Home Garden and Crop Planning Workshop. Even if it’s too cold and snowy to work outside, now is the time to at least start planning for a home garden. Farmer Jonathan is offering this workshop to guide home gardeners on the way to the most bountiful home garden. He will walk through the steps that he takes at Ambler Farm and how to adapt these processes to your own garden. Topics include crop selection, timing, spacing, basic soil nutrition, and basic garden design.

The Workshop is being offered on two dates:  Thursday, Mar. 19, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and Saturday, Mar. 21, 9:30-11:30 a.m. (participants will choose one to attend). Registration is currently open to members only, and will open to non-members on Mar. 1, space permitting. Cost to attend is $25 for members, $30 for non-members.

To register visit the Ambler Farm website.

Ambler Farm is offering one other opportunity to get some expert tips is through a “One-on-One Gardening with Farmer Jonathan” program. While he mans the sugar shack during the maple sugaring season (late February-March), turning sap into syrup, Jonathan will offer one-on-one half-hour sessions to discuss specific garden needs. Gardeners can bring photos, layouts, crop wish lists or anything else that may be useful during a consultation.

To schedule a time for a consultation, contact Jonathan by email. The best times are Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.. An alternate time may be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

The cost for a one-on-one consultation is $35 for members, $40 for non-members.
