If you haven’t heard about the latest food craze, açaí bowls, get ready to dig in and enjoy, because a popular franchise is being planned for Wilton Center. Sobol, the chain of açaí bowl, juice bar and smoothie cafes, will be opening in Kimco‘s Wilton River Plaza shopping center at 5 River Rd. in the next couple months. Preparations are being made to open in the location opposite the Bow Tie Cinemas movie theater and Starbucks, on the back side of the main plaza.

Owners Melissa and Sergio Ferreira, who own the Sobol location in Ridgefield, have already met with town officials to present their plans. In addition to the cafe space, town records show they are planning outdoor seating as well with tables and umbrellas on an adjoining patio.

Sergio Ferreira confirmed the news in a phone call with GOOD Morning Wilton.  “It’s been working in Ridgefield so we thought it would work in another town.”

Ferreira appeared in front of the Village District Design Advisory Committee on Tuesday, Aug. 28, to present the plans. During the meeting, the committee gave Ferreira feedback and recommendations on his application proposal, including a round sign in the purple corporate branding color motif. The committee suggested that Ferreira replace the current blue awning with an awning in the same purple color as the sign and use similar purple umbrellas.

Bowls are customized and made from blended fruits; soy or almond milk; and optional toppings, including granola, nuts, nut butters, fruit, and seeds. The bases include açaí berries–a super fruit rich in anti-oxidants; pitaya, also known as dragon fruit; and green, which combines kale and spinach with mango and bananas.

In addition to the three kinds of bowls, the menu offered in Ridgefield includes smoothies, and granola. Customers can order at the cafe or place an order online for takeout as well.

The corporate website describes Sobol cafes as a place that gives customers “…the best product, with the best customer service at the most competitive price. SoBol is not just a cafe in a local town, it is a community gathering spot. SoBol is a place where everyone can get a delicious meal where they feel better after visiting.”

There are currently 36 SoBol locations on the East coast, concentrated primarily on Long Island and Westchester. In addition to Ridgefield, the other CT location is in Cos Cob.
