This past Sunday, Sept. 15, the American Legion Post 86 received assistance from several of Wilton’s youngest volunteers when a number of scout troops participated in post’s Flag Retirement Ceremony to retire unserviceable flags together. Among the groups present to learn about flag etiquette from Wilton’s veterans were Wilton Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts Pack 22, Boy Scouts Troop 125 and Boy Scouts Troop 20.
During the ceremony, Scouts Conor Wolff, Brendan Genereux, Quinn Mitchell and Alex Shiue read the American Legion Charter to commemorate its 100 year anniversary.
The scouts and other guests stayed afterwards for a luncheon hosted by the Legion.
Next Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m., Wilton Cub Scout Pack 22 will host a fun hike for families on Schenck’s Island in Wilton Center (202 Old Ridgefield Rd.). Wilton Cub Scout Pack 22 consists of boys and girls in grades K-5. The group is broken up by age, also known as a Den (Lions/Kindergarten, Tiger/1st Grade, Wolf/2nd Grade, Bear/3rd Grade, Webelos/4th Grade, Arrow of Light/5th Grade) that meets once or twice per month in addition to the monthly, full pack meeting. Throughout the year, the group engages in various community service, life skill and outdoor skills lessons, and fun group activities.
