These days, “Back to School” always means a parents’ open house to meet the teacher. But this Sunday you can attend a Back to School open house and go back in time all at once–just, don’t forget your bonnet or writing slate when you meet your schoolmarm!

This Sunday, Sept 24, Wilton’s Hurlbutt Street Schoolhouse is hosting its annual Open House, from 2-5 p.m.. Step inside and find yourself back in the mid 1800s to get a glimpse at Wilton history. See how Wilton kids of yesteryear learned and lived, all in just one room. Get a feel for what it was like to learn when hornbooks, wood burning stoves and outhouses were part of daily school life.

Afterwards, step outside and take a tour of the Memorial Wildflower Garden, to see plants that were grown and used daily then by local families.

The Open House is happening the same day as Ambler Farm Day, so visitors can enjoy their time at the farm, and then stop by the Hurlbutt Street Schoolhouse at 157 Hurlbutt St., only a short drive down the road from Ambler Farm.
