GOOD To Know: Wilton Police Non-Emergency Line’s NEW Automated System

Credit: Wilton Police Department

The Wilton Police Department has made a notable change to its non-emergency phone line, 203.834.6260. The non-emergency number will first connect to an automated recording with a menu of options:

“Thank you for calling the Wilton Connecticut Police Department. If you have an emergency, hang up and dial 9‑1‑1. To report an incident or to speak with the dispatch center, please press 1 now. For records-related requests, including accident reports, please press 2. For fingerprint appointments or property retrieval information, please press 3.”

Citing an “overwhelming number of robocalls,” the WPD announcement said “this new system will filter out spam and allow callers with real needs to get through quickly.”

The change has already been implemented and anyone who calls the non-emergency line will get the automated recording.

The announcement said such spam calls “have begun to disrupt our ability to efficiently answer legitimate calls for service.  Even the police department isn’t immune to the barrage of spam calls. These unwanted calls interfere with our mission to provide public safety and timely assistance to our residents.”

The department’s announcement said the automated attendant will ensure that people who truly need police assistance can reach a human “without delay.”

“We appreciate your patience as we take this step to keep our communications efficient and our community safe. If you need assistance, we’re here, just a button press away,” the announcement said.

GOOD Politics: Maher Endorses Nestor in Race for 26th State Senate Seat

State Sen. Ceci Maher on Monday, Apr. 27, endorsed candidate Sam Nestor in the race for the 26th State Senate District. Maher announced earlier this year that she will not run for re-election.

Nestor is currently in her third term serving as Weston’s first selectwoman.

“Working with Sam these past four years has shown me how ready she is,” Maher said in a press release and video. “Sam listens, she is a problem solver, a hard worker, a visionary leader, and she is excellent at relationship building in all the key areas of the work that is done in the Senate and the legislature.”

“Serving here in the heart of the 26th District has been an honor,” Nestor said. “I look forward to serving our communities in the legislature. Senator Maher has been a role model for me and I look forward to continuing the work she has started on so many issues that matter here at home.”

Nestor is seeking the Democratic nomination at next month’s convention. State Rep. Lucy Dathan (D-New Canaan/Norwalk) has is also running for the party’s nomination.

Maher’s announcement said that choosing between the two candidates was “a difficult decision” but ultimately she “wholeheartedly and unreservedly endorse[d]” Nestor to succeed her.
