GOOD Times: WVAC Hosts Dinner for Ogden House Residents

Members of the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps recently served dinner to residents of Ogden House, a nonprofit affordable housing community on River Rd. for seniors and individuals with disabilities. WVAC has hosted these annual dinners for several years at both Ogden House and Wilton Commons.

Ogden House was among the top 10 locations for WVAC 911 responses in 2025. WVAC officials said events like this offer its members a chance to connect with residents outside of emergencies, with some meeting the crews who previously assisted them.

The evening included salad, chicken parmesan, pasta and cupcakes, along with a raffle hosted by former WVAC president John Miscioscia, where residents won puzzles and Stop & Shop gift cards.

After nearly a decade in business, Wilton residents Russ Zappala and Phyllis Zappala, owners of The Dilly Duck Shop, have announced they will be closing their restaurant, just over the Norwalk border at 666 Main Ave., In a heartfelt message to customers, the mother/son team behind the popular sandwich shop reflected on the relationships built over the years.

“We loved knowing you, your families and your friends. From new jobs to newly retired, from newborns to new grandkids, we cherished creating a space where we could share in life’s happenings,” Russ said. “It has made each day’s work incredibly meaningful.”

Since opening, The Dilly Duck Shop earned widespread recognition, including being named a Yelp “Top Place to Eat” in 2022, the top sandwich shop in Connecticut in 2024, and one of the top 100 sandwich shops in the country in 2025, while maintaining a near-perfect customer rating. Known for its rotisserie-roasted meats, signature drinks and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant’s owners said their proudest accomplishment was fostering a strong sense of community.

GOOD Luck to Wilton resident Meg Sanborn-Lowing running the Boston Marathon to fundraise for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

On Monday, Apr. 20, Wilton resident Meg Sanborn-Lowing is running to defy cancer as a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team in the Boston Marathon. The team of over 500 runners from around the world has a goal of collectively raising more than $8.75 million for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

On Sanborn-Lowing’s fundraising page, she explains that she’s running after three knee surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy because “some challenges are worth fighting for.”

“Cancer has impacted several members of my family, changing the course of their lives in ways that are impossible to ignore.  What has been impossible not to appreciate, though, is the power of modern cancer research and treatments.  Advancements from institutes like Dana-Farber have helped keep people I love here with me today, and that’s a gift I don’t take lightly,” she said.

One hundred percent of the funds raised by the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team benefit Dana-Farber’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.
