Youth United, the local group of teenagers volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, is trying to raise money that would support building a fifth Habitat for Humanity home in Bridgeport. They’re running a current fundraiser involving gingerbread houses to raise both awareness of the need for adequate housing as well as financial support for the Bridgeport project.
Several Youth United students built gingerbread houses last week and have put them on display at the Wilton Family YMCA. (They thank Stop & Show for donating the powdered sugar and graham crackers used to build the cookie houses.) The houses will be sold as centerpieces on Saturday, Dec. 17 outside of Stop & Shop. Any contributions will go toward the current project and help to hurdle the State Farm Insurance Challenge to match funds up to $4,000.
One of Habitat for Humanity’s goals is to make communities more aware of the need for adequate housing. Interested volunteers hoping to join the group may contact Margie Holcomb via email. Pictured with their gingerbread creations are Isaac Downs, Stella Crowther and Ariella Hattenbach.
