The American Legion of Wilton, Post 86, will be hosting a Veterans Day Procession and Memorial Service today, Nov. 11, 10:15-11 a.m. to honor and thank those who served this nation when they were called upon to do so. Members of the Wilton community are invited to attend, to pay tribute to our veterans and service members. The event is rain or shine, open to everyone, and Wilton Veterans are encouraged to participate.

Similar to the Memorial Day Parade route, the Veteran’s Day celebration begins with a parade processional which kicks off behind the Wilton Library Association, proceeds left on Old Ridgefield Rd., and ends at Wilton’s Veterans Memorial.

The Veterans Day Parade offers a unique and patriotic opportunity for the Wilton community to honor those who have served and those who are serving today. The processional and memorial service will include a color guard, singing of the National Anthem and “God Bless America” sung by Wilton High School seniors, a prayer by the Post chaplain, a proclamation by first selectman Bill Brennan, veteran speakers, “Amazing Grace” played by bagpipe and trumpet, closing with taps and the raising of the flag.

There will be a community coffee inside the Legion Hall for attendees immediately following the ceremony.

Organizers say that any local veterans or active duty personnel interested in participating in the parade are encouraged and welcomed to take part.

The Commander of Post 86, Don Hazzard, hopes all Wilton residents will bring family and friends out to the Veteran’s Day parade and ceremony. “Please show your support and express gratitude to the American Veterans of the Armed Services.”
