Wilton Baseball Players help Team Win State Championship, will Represent CT at Nationals in Disney World

The CT Blue Thunder 12U team, comprised of some of the best baseball players in Wilton, Darien and Stamford, competed this past weekend (April 25-26) at the 2015 AAU CT State Championships held at the CT Sportplex in Branford. The tournament brought some of the top teams throughout the state to compete. Blue Thunder 12U rolled to an impressive 14-3 win in the championship game and as a result, will receive an invitation to represent CT later this season in a USSSA 12-U tournament to be held in Disney World.

Three of the prominent players on the Blue Thunder AAU team are out of Wilton Baseball. Andrew Travers, John McMahon and Jordan Sayewitz played major roles in the team’s successful weekend. After losing the first game, Travers lead the team to an impressive win in game two, throwing a one-hitter. Sayewitz picked up a key win in game 5, a critical game in a single elimination format. McMahon was behind the plate in two games and played a great third and second base in the championship game. All three boys provided many key hits and plays in each game.

Wilton 2nd Grader Takes Home Gold Medal at State Tae Kwon Do Championships

Evan Thomas Lalor, a second grader at Miller-Driscoll School took home a gold medal at the 2015 CT State Championships held Saturday, April 11 in Hamden by the CT State Taekwondo Association.

Lalor, who turned 8-years-old on March 20 and has a black belt with a yellow stripe, won the gold in the Board Breaking event in the 8-9 year-old group. In less than a minute, Lalor broke three boards with a “hammer punch” — a career first — two with an “axe kick,” three with an elbow, and one each with two incredible flying kicks.

“I’m really happy,” said Lalor. “I practiced a lot and there were a lot of late practices.” Lalor has been training at World Champion Taekwondo in Westport since 2013 after beginning his illustrious career at BM Kim Taekwondo in Scarsdale, NY. He is hoping to test for a black belt late this year.
