The Iron Ladies Flag Football Club, based in Wilton, made a strong showing on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the NFL Flag Regional Tournament in Taunton, MA hosted by the New England Patriots. This was the first tournament for the club.
The club was founded earlier this fall by Wilton parents and Wilton Youth Football flag football coaches to provide opportunities for girls throughout southwestern Connecticut to develop and compete in flag football.
Its combined 12U/10U squad was one of seven teams in the tournament’s Girls 12U Division and played teams from throughout the Northeast. A 2-1 record in the open stage earned the team a playoff spot, where they lost to the division’s top-ranked team. The Iron Ladies have additional regional tournaments in their sights and are continuing to grow, with a roster currently spanning five towns throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
