During this season of gratitude, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA is inviting the community to participate in its Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and Food/Toiletries Drive.
YMCA officials say their goal this year is to provide turkeys to 75 families in Norwalk, ensuring that they can enjoy a warm and festive Thanksgiving meal. To achieve this goal, the Y is asking for $35 donations for each turkey, which will directly support local families in need. Donations can be made online on the YMCA website.
In addition to the Turkey Drive, the YMCA is also conducting a non-perishable Food/Toiletries Drive to benefit the Wilton Food Pantry. Organizers are specifically asking for donations of the following food items:
- coffee (both regular and decaf)
- cold cereal
- oatmeal
- peanut butter and jelly/jam
- pancake mix and syrup
- snacks suitable for lunch boxes, such as small bags of popcorn and chips
Please note that baby food or diapers cannot be accepted, and donors should make sure to check all donated food items for expiration dates to ensure their quality.
In addition to food items, YMCA officials also encourage donations of essential personal care items, including:
- toothpaste and toothbrushes
- deodorant for both men and women
- shampoo and conditioner
- body wash and bar soap
Donations can be dropped off at the Riverbrook Regional YMCA, Wilton Branch (404 Danbury Rd.).
“We appreciate the community’s support in making this holiday season a little brighter for our neighbors in need,” Riverbrook YMCA CEO Christene Freedman said. “Thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to helping local families this Thanksgiving.”
