The Kiwanis Club of Wilton will be holding a food drive this weekend to help restock the Wilton Food Pantry, which recently reopened after construction at Comstock Community Center forced it to close for a month.
Kiwanis Club members will be stationed at both Stop & Shop (5 River Rd.) and the Village Market (108 Old Ridgefield Rd.) from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on each day this weekend–Friday, June 26; Saturday, June 27; and Sunday, June 28. They will have lists of items most needed by the Food Pantry, which shoppers can use to find suggested items for donation.
In a press release sent to local media, club organizers said, “Because the pantry was closed for a month it will take lot of items to refill the shelves, but if past collections are any indication, we can count on the generosity of the people of Wilton to meet this new challenge.”
All food and personal care items collected during the food drive will stay here in Wilton and help support the needs of approximately 50 Wilton families–more than 130 people–who receive services and rely on the food pantry. The Kiwanis Club periodically collects items in an effort to keep the shelves ready for the families in need.
