The following is a letter to the editor from Toni Boucher, who witnessed her neighbor’s house fire last week on Hurlbutt St..
According to a report in the Wilton Bulletin, The Wilton Fire Department prevented a garage fire to spread to the home. “Firefighters responded to an emergency call for a structure fire at 379 Hurlbutt Street around 10:50 p.m. [Thursday, June 19], and discovered a two-story, two-car garage ‘heavily involved’ in fire, according to Chief Ronald Kanterman. Although damage to the garage was severe, the fire did not affect the house.”
Dear Editor,
It was nearly midnight when I looked up from my computer and heard a multitude of fire engines that were racing near my home. A neighbor was experiencing a very serious fire. By the time I took a flash light and walked down my street to see if the family needed a place to stay, the firemen from Wilton and area towns had the fire contained in the garage of the home. Fortunately, the family was safe and sound. The firemen were smiling broadly as only a garage had been destroyed due to their quick and professional response. A tragedy had been averted.
Omar Bradley said that bravery is the capacity to perform properly even when scared half to death. Our first responders and firefighters and their families do not know what deadly threat they will be presented with on any given day. Some may take their presence for granted but when the unimaginable happens, a mire thank you cannot convey the relief they provide to the community and the people they protect. Although a simple thank you is what can be expressed by a letter, a world of deep gratitude is behind those two simple words. Yes, thank you to our brave, true and faithful heroes, thank you.
Toni Boucher
