GOOD Morning Wilton is starting a new business feature, showcasing the people behind the local businesses. Let them know you’ve read about them on GMW.com!

Today we’re spotlighting Kristen Szymanowicz and Penelope Schwartz, who have partnered together to represent Beautycounter, a line of personal and beauty care products for women and children. They host private parties and trunk shows at homes and businesses as one way to market their product line.

Business Name:  Beautycounter

Describe your business:  We represent Beautycounter, a company based out of Santa Monica, CA that has a social mission to get safe products into the hands of everyone. We offer safe and effective products for women and their families.

How long have you had your business in Wilton?  We have been in business since March 2015.

What sets your business apart from any other?  We have a ‘Never List’ of 1,500 questionable or harmful ingredients that we will never use in our products, which includes the 1,400 ingredients banned in the E.U. and hundreds of additional ingredients that Beautycounter has screened and decided to prohibit. In addition, our Ingredient Selection Process is truly industry leading, yet our product line is as high performing and luxe as any high end product on the market.

What do you love most about your job?  It’s hard to pick one! Above all, we love being able to educate people about what is in their personal care products and to help them make informed choices. If we could pick a second, we love the flexibility our job offers us.

What would people be surprised to learn about you and your business?  That we are an educate first product second company. The beauty industry is one of the least regulated consumer product categories on the market—meaning it’s actually legal to sell skin care and cosmetics that contain harmful chemicals linked to cancer and other serious health impacts. Our main objective to educate and help our clients.

What was the most memorable work experience you’ve had in Wilton? Any opportunity we have to give back is a memorable experience for us. Most recently, one of our friends hosted a party and generously chose to donate the products she earned to the American Brain Tumor Association to aid their fundraising efforts.

Any funny anecdotes/recollections/story from your work here?  For those that know us, that the two of us are business partners is an anecdote in itself!

What do you love about doing business in Wilton?  Wilton business owners are extremely supportive of other local businesses and have welcomed partnering with us since day one. We feel lucky to be a part of this group!

What do you hope to teach/give your customers?  To be as cognizant of what they put on their body as they are about what they put in their body.

What other Wilton business do you like and would recommend to GMW readers?  So many! From the small town feel we get at Village Market to the amazing selection and personal service at Signature Style and Blue Star Bazaar to spinning at JoyRide Wilton.

How can people contact you?  People can send an email to Kristen Szymanowicz or Penelope Schwartz.
