Wilton is a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays. Classic, traditional and warm, it’s given us great joy to have chronicled this first GOOD Morning Wilton Christmas. As the editor, I don’t personally celebrate Christmas, but that doesn’t stop me from celebrating the Christmas feeling.
And that is the point we hope Wilton and everyone always remembers–it’s the spirit of Christmas that makes it so magical.
It’s that spirit of Christmas that we’ve loved uncovering and discovering at GOOD Morning Wilton.
We’ve heard such stories of generosity and goodness. Like people stepping forward to make the holiday happen for needy Wilton families through Wilton Social Services—Cathy Pierce, the director of WSS told us that after our Season of Giving story ran on how to donate there, $700 came in within the first few days.
We loved hearing about how Wiltonians were generous to the efforts of Ct-Moms Online to give gifts to needy children, to donate to Person-to-Person–to the tune of $1,800 at the Care-oke at Bianco Rosso–and to make meals for Wilton’s homebound elderly at Thanksgiving through the Wilton Woman’s Club and their Junior Leadership Program.
Individuals and businesses came up with thoughtful, creative ways to help others. Just yesterday, Junior Leadership moms and daughters gathered again, this time to make Christmas dinner for home bound seniors. We heard of another act of generosity as someone stepped in on Christmas Eve to make gifts appear when she learned a family would otherwise go without. We heard of a couple who own a Wilton business who, when they learned their employee’s car couldn’t handle the snowy, icy roads, gifted her with a brand new set of tires for Christmas. There’s a 6th grade girl running her own food drive for Wilton’s Food Pantry. We learned of a Wilton boy who donated his birthday money to the Animals in Distress cat shelter, and brought attention to the animals in need there.
And the list goes on.
The large and small gestures of kindness, of helping–and loving–your neighbor. As so many of you open your gifts this morning, let’s reflect on how it’s about the ways we open our hearts to one another. That’s what the holiday is truly about. That’s the beauty of a small town, it’s easy to find the heart.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday, and a very happy and healthy New Year!
