51st Annual Election Day Coat Drive

The Wilton Congregational Church will again hold its annual three-day Election Day Coat Drive event. This is the 51st year the church is running the event.
Organizers will welcome donations of anything that will keep a child or adult warm, from coats, jackets, fleeces, hats and scarves to blankets and sleeping bags. Items can be dropped off the Wilton Congregational Church at 70 Ridgefield Rd. during the following hours: Sunday, Nov. 1, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 2, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Tuesday (Election Day), Nov. 3, 8 a.m.-4 p.m..
Volunteers will sort, and in many cases, wash and mend the donated coats. All donated items will be given to Wilton Social Services, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Open Door Shelter and Person to Person. As in past years, organizers coordinate with Wilton Social Services to find out what items and sizes are needed by families in town first. These are set aside before the rest of the donations are trucked to Bridgeport and Norwalk.
Wilton Schools Invite Public for Brainstorming Ideas about District’s Future
Members of the Wilton community are invited to a Wilton Public School District sponsored discussion event that administrators say will “help create a pathway to the future for the Wilton Public Schools.” The event will be held on Monday, Nov. 2 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Middlebrook School Media Center.
School administrators and community members will participate in a structured dialogue about what is possible for the schools and how to make that vision a reality. “This process will give shared meaning and purpose to what we do moving forward as a school community.” said Superintendent Kevin Smith. “The goal is to have a clear, agreed-upon understanding of what we are trying to achieve and a set of actions that will bridge the current reality to the vision.”
According to administrators, “Developing and implementing a comprehensive vision of the future needs to involve many voices, partnering home, school and community. This event holds great promise for building a new model of education in Wilton that serves all learners and that is designed to foster 21st Century skills and knowledge.”

Christian Science Sponsored Talk on Prayer and Health Connection
On Monday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m., Michelle Nanouche, of Paris, France, will present a talk entitled, “Finding God, Finding Health,” in the Brubeck Room of Wilton Library.
To those looking for health and a deeper, more meaningful way of life, Nanouche says, “Spirituality isn’t just a lifestyle choice. I believe it is the basic element of true being. I’ve found that prayer and a constantly growing understanding of God is a reliable way to maintain health and bring joy and fullness to one’s life.”
Michelle Nanouche began her training to become a Christian Science Nurse while she was still in high school. She nursed for 10 years before opening her first office as a practitioner of Christian Science healing. She brings over 30 years of professional healing experience to her work as a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing. She has lectured on the subject of prayer and healing throughout the US, and was the point person for information on Christian Science to public authorities, the legislature and the media for several years.
The talk is sponsored by Wilton’s First Church of Christ, Scientist, and is open to the public at no charge. For further information call Louise Herot at 203.762.3889.
Buy Things, Eat Things and Help Others, at 6th Annual Sip-Shop-Share
Believe it or not, the holidays are near, and for anyone looking for an excuse to celebrate, spend time with friends and help those in need all at the same time, a group of local artisans and small businesses have joined forces to satisfy that need.
The 6th Annual Sip-Shop-Share event will be held Thursday Nov. 5 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at WEPCO, 36 New Canaan Rd..

Jennifer Angerame owns Southern Yankee, and designs clothing, gifts and accessories by taking vintage pieces from the past and making them chic for today. For the last several years, she has asked other local businesses to join her for this shopping event which raises funds and collect items for Elder House. Items they will be collecting, instead of admission, are: body wash; body lotion; Advil or Tylenol; boxed chocolates and cookies (sugar free and regular); crossword puzzle and word search books; black/blue/red poker chips; and large size Crayola markers. Cash donations are also greatly appreciated.
Another fun twist on the “sharing” part of this event is that Wilton High School classes, with the help of the PGP parents, are invited to sell their PGP fundraising items. It’s a perfect way to support Wilton parents and students and buy some great Wilton Warrior-branded items.
A sampling of the other local businesses that are taking part in Sip-Shop-Share are A Single Strand, Sabina Furst Designs, Cider Mill Designs, Jen’s Bars for SMS Research Foundation, Arbonne, and Pastiche Custom Perfume.
Coffee and edible goodies will be available during the day.
