Wilton Library Wins Bocce Tournament
The Wilton Library “Bocce Brawlers” took home the championship trophy and a check for $1,200 at the First Annual Branchville Charity Bocce Tournament, held on Saturday, Sept. 12 on the Ancona’s Wines & Liquors bocce court in Ridgefield. The team played several games throughout the day, finally edging out the team from Ann’s Place to garner first place. SafeRides Launches Third Year Helping Students who Need Safe Rides Home
With a volunteer orientation taking place on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Trackside Teen Center, Wilton SafeRides launched its third consecutive year of operation.
Robert Storck, secretary and multi-year veteran of Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and School Resource Officer Diane MacLean spoke to more than 80 students and parents about the issues and challenges of being a SafeRides volunteer.
This year’s co-presidents are seniors Jillian Lauricella and Tucker Bendix. Parent coordinators are Lisa Schneider and Mike Safko.
This year’s program will include about 120 student volunteers split up into nine teams. As in years past, the program operate out of Trackside on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.. Students needing a ride home in Wilton can call 203.834.CARE (2273) and a team of two SafeRides volunteers will be quickly dispatched to provide transportation. As always, no questions will be asked and all information will be kept strictly confidential.

Ribbon Cutting for Brookdale Wilton Helps Fundraise to End Alzheimer’s
Brookdale Place, a senior living community at 96 Danbury Rd., is changing its name to Brookdale Wilton and is celebrating with a ribbon cutting and silent auction event. The Sixth Annual Silent Auction Event will raise funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s next Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m. (with the ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.). Wilton’s first selectman, Bill Brennan, will be attending the ceremony.
Brookdale Place is one of 1,150 senior communities in 47 states that are part of Brookdale Senior Living, the nation’s largest provider of senior living services. The Wilton location is combining this event with their Sixth Annual Silent Auction to raise money for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Among the items available for bids are gift baskets; gift certificates for local restaurants, hair salon and nail services; jewelry; limo services; hotel stays; artwork painted by a resident; lap blankets and afghans crocheted by Brookdale’s Crochet Club; and quilts made by the Wilton Quilting Group. 6th Grade Party at Trackside
Sixth Graders in Wilton are invited to a special 6th Grade Welcome Party at Trackside Teen Center (15 Station Rd.) on Friday, Sept. 18 from 7-9 p.m.. All guests will enjoy music, dancing, games and more. Tickets will be sold during lunch waves at Middlebrook and online on the Trackside website for $8 apiece; tickets sold at the door on the night of the party are $10.
