They say baseball is America’s pastime, but the girls of Wilton’s District 10U team might just change it to softball this July 4th.
The team’s two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as they defeated Rowayton, 24-4 on Sunday, July 2. Lauren Davis pitched three innings, with seven strikeouts and no hits, and Gracie Dibunno-Krafick closed it out by striking out Rowayton to end the game.
Eva Filiponi and Davis led Wilton’s offense by driving in four runs each. They both had three hits at the plate. Wilton came out strong with 10 runs in the first inning against Rowyaton and then added seven more runs in the second inning. Wilton’s potent offense never looked back as Sadie Klyver was the spark plug that ignited it all with a double to start the game.
The Wilton 10s collected 21 hits with Klyver (3-for-3), Filipponi (3-for-5), Davis (3-for-5), Marin Burke (2-for-3), and Abby Seeberger (2-for-4). Katie Kelly had a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 and two walks, along with Grace Guglielmo, who went 2-for-2 with a walk. Lauren Sanfilippo added an RBI in the first inning with a hard hit ground ball. In addition to her great pitching performance, Dibunno-Krafick had a solid line drive for a single. Grace Couch and Grace Costa came off the bench and played excellent defense in the outfield. Couch scored after walking and Costa added an RBI and had walks.
Overall the 10u dominated the entire game from start to finish to win 24-4. Wilton plays its next game in Darien today, Tuesday July 4 at McGuane Challenger Field at 10 a.m..
