Soccer and Rugby Imports, the CT sports apparel and equipment retailer, yesterday announced their donation to Wilton-based Kick for Nick Foundation, generously donating 50 soccer balls to the foundation’s work. Kick for Nick supports U.S. troops and volunteer efforts to foster unity, strength and cohesion around the world, by delivering soccer balls and equipment to U.S. military locations around the world for U.S. soldiers to distribute to children in those areas where they’re serving.
The Foundation helps foster goodwill and peace between troops and local children around the world, primarily in areas that are often war-torn and poverty-stricken.
Kick for Nick honors the idea started by Nick Madaras: People donate soccer balls, which are shipped to U.S. military locations around the world, and U.S. soldiers deliver them to children in the areas where they are serving.
The Kick for Nick Foundation delivers sports equipment to underprivileged children so that they can have an equal opportunity to enjoy sports. The Kick for Nick Foundation was initiated in memory of PFC Nicholas A. Madaras of Wilton, CT who lost his life while on duty in Iraq in the later part of 2006.
Nick was a devoted and eager footballer, coach and referee all throughout his youth. While in Iraq, Nick realized how talented many children over there were at the game of soccer. Although they didn’t have the privilege of owning a soccer ball themselves, Nick saw that talent that was there as they played soccer with tin cans. In honor of Nick, Soccer and Rugby Imports is donating soccer balls to children through the Kick for Nick Foundation.
Soccer and Rugby Imports is dedicated to donating to various charities around the globe in an effort to bring joy to those less fortunate. It is the company’s duty to work endlessly to advocate the game of soccer, as well as inform players, coaches as well as families about the sport and the appropriate equipment.
Soccer and Rugby Imports was established in 1993, in Westport, Conn. Four more locations have opened in the subsequent years: Ridgefield, Greenwich, Madison and Bronxville, NY. Soccer and Rugby Imports has been supplying Connecticut’s soccer clubs and organizations across the country and abroad for the past 20 years.
