Janet Jones Shipp, beloved mother, devoted daughter, loving fiancée, caring sister and aunt, loyal and unconditional friend, died Dec. 9, 2021, at Norwalk Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 64 years young.

Janet was born the daughter of Eugene Douglas Jones and the late opera singer Betty Jones of Wilton on June 22, 1957, in Zorzor, Liberia, West Africa.

She attended Middlebury College majoring in dance and joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. While dancing was her passion, she eventually got her MBA and worked at Glencore, a multinational commodity trading company, for 34 years.

Janet is survived by her father Eugene Douglas Jones; her sons, Hunter Shipp and Wesley Shipp; and her brother, Jeffrey Allen Jones. Janet was engaged to be married to her college sweetheart, Curtis Singleton.

Due to COVID, Janet’s memorial service will be live-streamed from the Wilton Congregational Church in Wilton on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Janet can make a donation to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater or the American Cancer Society.
