Our Lady of Fatima-Wilton Home School Association (HSA) will hold its 2018 Gala Fundraiser this Saturday, April 21 at the Silver Spring Country Club in Ridgefield. This year’s event, a Masquerade Ball, will feature a live jazz band, dinner, dancing, open bar (beer and wine) and a live auction. In addition, HSA co-event chairs Carrie Shaffer and Joanne Salageanu announced the event will begin a new tradition of honoring someone who has made a difference to the school community and who exemplifies the school’s “service above self” motto. This year’s festivities will celebrate the contributions of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and School Religious Education director, Kathleen Rooney.
Rooney is responsible for managing the Our Lady of Fatima Parish and School Religious Education program, Vacation Bible School in addition to teaching Middle School Religion classes. Rooney has been a Fatima parishioner for over 39 years and has been dedicated to the youth of the Parish and School for over 33 years. She began her service as director of religious education in 1985 and has taught in the Fatima School since 1993.
“Mrs. Rooney is an inspiration to our school community. She is the guiding force for our pre-K through grade 8 students’ daily religious education and is instrumental in preparing each child to receive Reconciliation, the Eucharist and Confirmation. I am thrilled we have an opportunity to recognize Kathleen’s contributions and devotion to Fatima,” principal Stanley Steele noted.

“Mrs. Rooney is the heart of our Parish Religious Education Program and a valued member of our Parish staff. Through her guidance and leadership efforts, thousands of children have been nurtured and educated in the Catholic faith. I am delighted the school has chosen to recognize her at this event. I encourage our entire parish community, current and former Religious Education and Fatima School parents to join in this special celebration.”
