Outdoor Sports Center has started a running club and they’re inviting anyone to join. They’re organizing runs every Tuesday night along the Norwalk River Valley Trail.

“We started the group with the directors of the SONO Half Marathon, James and Shannon Whipple, and it’s loosely intended to help people get ready for the race on Oct. 17. But the group is open to anyone and everyone, whether or not they’re doing a race this summer,” says Grace Lloyd of Outdoor Sports Center.

Runners meet in the park & ride next to Orem’s Diner on the corner of Rte. 7 and Wolfpit Rd. at 6:15 p.m.. The group will start with 3-mile runs and eventually work up to running 5 miles throughout the summer. Outdoor Sports plans to continue hosting the running group until the October race.

Runs are lead by James and Shannon Whipple as well as by Outdoor Sports Center Staff. Participation is open to all experience levels, and race registration is not required to join in on the fun. Runners should make sure to be well hydrated and fueled up before runs. Children under 18 years old are allowed only with a signed waiver or the supervision of a parent or guardian. Waivers are available at Outdoor Sports Center.

To learn more, visit the running group’s page on the Outdoor Sports Center website, or join the group’s Facebook page where updates, including cancellations due to weather or trail changes, will be posted.
