Wilton Library’s Shredding Day for the Community on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9:00 a.m.- noon is a great way for residents and businesses to get rid of unwanted, outdated, yet confidential files and papers taking up space at home or the office. That’s too much personal data to just “put out in the trash,” so shred them and benefit the library at the same time.
City Confidential, a division of City Carting, is donating its time, truck and operators for this fundraiser so all proceeds will benefit the library. The minimum fee is $10 for a small bag or box of papers; $15 for half of a 65 gallon container; $30 to fill a full 65 gallon container. The library will be accepting cash or checks only.
Elaine Tai-Lauria, Wilton Library’s executive director noted, “We realized that the library had shredding needs and the more we talked about it, the more we grasped the value of it. So we decided to open it to the residents and businesses in town. With City Confidential generously donating their total services to the cause, we were able to make it a fundraiser for the library.”
City Confidential’s self-contained truck will be staged in the library’s west parking lot adjacent to ABC House beginning at 9:00 a.m. People will be able to park, pay the small fee, drop off their loads and drive away, leaving the shredding to the operator. For those who wish to stop and watch the truck in action, the library will be selling bagels and coffee from Connecticut Coffee.
“We really applaud what the library is doing for the community,” remarked Gary Fanali, VP of sales and marketing from City Confidential/City Carting. “When Elaine Tai-Lauria approached us with the idea, we jumped at the chance to help Wilton and the library.”
People participating in Shredding Day will receive an Affidavit of Destruction from City Confidential that complies with the FTC’s FACTA Disposal Rule. Documents that can be shredded are private or confidential business and/or personal records. All types of paper can be shredded including window envelopes, papers with staples and paper clips. Binder clips cannot be on any documents intended for shredding. According to City Confidential, the company uses “a state-of-the-art truck, specially designed for commercial, heavy-duty shredding. The onsite, supervised process is completely confidential. The documents are directly put into the shredding device from the tote bin. [People] may supervise the entire destruction process, giving [them] the assurance that all [their] private documents are destroyed. The state of the art equipment, ‘THE PAPER PREDATOR,’ pulverizes all manner of paper and documents to the smallest shred-size in the industry. This provides customers with maximum security.”
