Wilton Cub Scout Pack 22 will host its annual Spring Fishing Derby at the Wilton Family YMCA Kiwanis Pond on Saturday, April 30. The Derby is open to all ages and abilities, and no fishing license is needed to participate.
The Pack has stocked the Kiwanis Pond with more than 200 rainbow and brook trout to maximize each participant’s chances of catching a fish. Whether parents want introduce their children (or themselves) to fishing for the first time, or participants have many fishing seasons under their belts but love the challenge of catching these trout, organizers invite all for a day of fun.
“Pack 22 invests thousands into this opportunity for the community each year. It is just such a great way for families to enjoy a day outside pursuing a Connecticut right of spring…catching trout with rod and reel,” says Cub Scout Pack 22 volunteer Lars Cherichetti.
Participants are asked to bring their own equipment (rod, reel & tackle). Limited numbers of fishing rods will be available to borrow during the event, provided by Trout Unlimited.
There are five “monstrous” tagged fish lurking in the pond. Catch a one of these and take home a prize—a fishing rod, landing net, or other prize.
The bait and lure fishing portion of the Derby will be held from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., and a special fly fishing portion from 5-6 p.m.. Bait will be available to purchase at the Fishing Derby, and organizers will also be offering healthy snacks and beverages for sale.
The event will be held rain or shine. Come to the entrance to the pond at the Wilton Family YMCA on Danbury Road. Admissions for participants ages 6 and under is free, ages 7-18 is $8, and adults are $12. there is also a family rate of $25. Pay once and come and go all day.
