SPED*NET Wilton has announced a series of six support group meetings for families of children with special needs, such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health challenges (e.g., depression; anxiety), etc. The group will be facilitated by well-known school psychologist David P. Sylvestro.
Sylvestro said that the group will provide opportunities for parents of children with special needs to get together and talk about issues related to their kids’ academic, social and emotional development. Group members will have the chance to discuss and hear from other parents on family dynamics and the impact that having a special needs child has on those dynamics. Members also will be able to network with other parents to help expand their children’s social spheres.
The support group will meet by Zoom on six Tuesday mornings from 10-11 a.m. Discussion at each meeting will center on a specific topic theme. When safe, the group will meet in person at a location in Wilton.
Meeting dates and themes are:
February 15 — Staying cool and flexible in the midst of change
March 1 — Moving from acceptance to empowerment
March 15 — Centering ourselves in a high achieving, competitive community
March 29 — Talking to extended family about your child’s needs
April 12 — Theme to be chosen by group members
April 26 — Theme to be chosen by group members
Participation fee is $60 for the six-part series, with scholarships available for parents who cannot afford the fee at this time. Space is limited to 12 participants. Prior registration is required. Interested individuals must register at the SPED*NET Wilton website.
