New and current members of appointed and elected Town Boards and Commission in the Town of Wilton will be receiving a copy of the new Guide to Serving on a Town Board/Commission. According to a press release from the office of the first selectwoman, “The guide was developed as a reference document to provide information and resources to help make each member’s term a productive and successful one.”

The guide provides general information on taking the Oath of Office, receiving the Code of Ethics, and how to use a Town email account. It also reviews the CT Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and addresses the importance of board/commission members adhering to FOIA requirements. Specific topics including the role of officers, sub-committees and task forces, the proper conduct of meetings, and requirements for preparing and filing meeting agendas and minutes are also reviewed.

Sarah Gioffre, the community affairs coordinator for the first selectwoman’s office, prepared the document and presented it to the Board of Selectmen at its meeting on Monday, Oct. 1. First selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice noted  that the town did not have any current guide or instructions for commission or board members before this.
