First selectman Bill Brennan made a significant announcement related to Wilton’s economic development yesterday, (Tuesday, Sept. 22):   that a long-vacant commercial building has been sold with plans to develop it as a specialized medical center.

According to a press release from Brennan’s office, New Canaan-based Cambridge Hanover plans to open a “state of the art, specialized medical center” at 241 Danbury Rd.. The six-acre site, opposite Wilton’s Town Hall on Rte. 7, was formerly the Bran Blau headquarters and has been vacant for more than 15 years.

“The Lavin family and owner desired to sell this property to a developer who would improve the site to benefit the town of Wilton and other regional municipalities,” the release stated.

The developer plans to offer the offices spaces to healthcare professionals. The project calls for a complete restoration of the existing 40,000 sq. ft. building set in a professionally landscaped environment with convenient parking. Two Rte. 7 traffic lights and turn signals will provide easy and safe access and egress to- and from the site. The release also touts the site’s location as beneficial given Wilton’s central position in relation to the surrounding towns of Ridgefield, Weston, New Canaan, Westport and Norwalk.

“This exciting new facility, when completed next year, will provide additional medical services and facilities to Wilton, as well as neighboring communities,” Brennan says.

Sean McDonnell, US Lead, with the Healthcare Affinity Group of Avison Young, is heading the project, which is scheduled to open in June 2016.. McDonnell, a Wilton resident, said that having the center in Wilton is a “fantastic opportunity for the town and for the area, with very specialized professionals, state of the art medicine and state of the art medical technology.” He added that the project is already 50-percent “early committed.”

“The Wilton community and its neighboring towns have access to excellent traditional medical practices, Urgent Care centers and hospitals. This center will address specific ailments with the highest trained professionals and the most up to date equipment available. Patients will have access to high level specialists, in a modern facility that is both centrally located and easily accessible,” McDonnell says.
