Wilton’s Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer two eight-week bereavement support groups this summer to help individuals cope with loss. One group will meet to help individuals following the death of a spouse, and the other group is organized to support individuals grieving the loss of a parent.

Losing a Spouse:  Tuesdays, 6-7:30 p.m., July 12-August 30.

“In this support group, we will explore the grieving process and the profound sense of personal loss that follows the death of a spouse,” says Nan Cook, LCSW, a grief and bereavement counselor with Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.
“With the death of a spouse, we experience the loss of what is probably the most fundamental relationship in our adult lives. We not only lose a loved one but a vital part of our identity as well. This bereavement support group will help participants gain a deeper understanding of their feelings of grief and begin the process of healing.”

Losing a Parent:  Thursdays, 6-7:30 p.m., July 7-August 25.

“In this support group we will address the range of powerful emotions that are common among adults following the death of a parent including depression, fear, abandonment, remorse, isolation, loneliness and guilt,” says Rev. Marti Bishop, an interfaith minister, and grief and bereavement counselor with Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County. “Regardless of age or the particular circumstances of the loss, the death of a parent can be a profoundly effecting experience and it is essential to attend to these feelings of grief in order to begin the process of healing.”

Both bereavement support groups will be held at the offices of Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County in Suite 114 at the Health and Wellness Center at I-Park. I-Park is located at 761 Main Ave. (Rte. 7) on the Norwalk/Wilton town line.

The support groups are free-of-charge and open to the public but pre-registration is required. For more information, or to pre-register to attend either bereavement support group, call Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County at 203.834.6341, ext. 255.
